" Copper & Cotton bathroom renovation for the oldest house in Buffalo "
When the designers at Copper & Cotton wanted a centerpiece bath for the new birthing suite at historic Coit House in Buffalo, they looked to Europe and to Aquatica. We were delighted to help bring this project to life, supplying a circular stone tub that would play such a profound role in people’s lives while also complementing the heritage of the city’s oldest building.
As with so many bathroom schemes, everything revolved around the tub. “Our design process started with the choice of bath,” commented Aubrey Hlavaty from Copper & Cotton Design. “A large tub was necessary for the space to function optimally and it was decided early on that it must also be the focal point of the room.”
The team selected the Aquatica Aura freestanding tub . “We loved the depth, stone look, and the quality of the materials,” said Aubrey, “and it was the largest tub we could fit up the narrow historical staircase!”
What really set this project apart was that the bathroom also needed to serve as a birthing suite. “It was very important to us and our client that the tub be high quality, allow for a higher water depth and be freestanding,” commented Aubrey. The Aquatica Aura ticked every box.
Bathroom Before
It also fitted with the designers’ wish to dovetail the bathroom scheme with the original details and charm of the building – this was their guiding inspiration throughout. “We landed on a calming color palette and incorporated lots of natural materials – such as the quarter sawn oak vanity and marble shower tile – which complemented historical material selections including classic penny-round floor tile and brass vintage style plumbing fixtures.” The overall effect, with the generous tub sitting center stage and wall-to-wall built- cabinetry, is timeless yet sophisticated and luxurious.
The project was a labor of love, taking 11 months from original sketches to completion, but the results were worth every minute and dollar spent.
Bathroom After
“The tub is a real showstopper,” said Aubrey, “and we would definitely choose Aquatica for future projects for their upgraded materials and larger tub options. We were also thrilled with the service we received during the order and international shipment process.”
For our part, we couldn’t be happier with the finished suite. It’s wonderful to see our bath anchoring this beautiful and historic room, and humbling to think that for years to come it will touch so many families at this special moment in their lives.
